| OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: |
Although many of our volunteers love to wrap and deliver gifts to the children of Bexar County, we also need volunteers that are willing to work behind the scenes and in other areas. These volunteer opportunities include: DATA ENTRY: This detail-oriented task that is ideal for anyone with basic personal computer skills familiar with using basic application processing software. The process involves reading names, addresses, ect. listed on the paper applications submitted to the Elf Louise project and keying the children’s information into a customized data base using a form that appears on the computer screen. Approximately 6,500-7,000 applications are received each season and processed by our data entry team. We can easily accommodate groups of up to five people using the equipment currently available. The Data entry process period for the Elf Louise Project runs from Mid-October through early November. Work is processed at the Bracken Texas warehouse, and flexible daytime hours are usually available. COMPUTER LIST AUDITING: This is another vitally important detail-oriented task that is ideal for anyone who enjoys working with compiled data base information. Once all of the children’s data has been entered into the Elf Louise data base a master list of information is printed. All of the children’s data that has been entered into the data base is checked for accuracy to insure that all of the information that “Santa” receives about each child is correct and that all address information has been correctly entered into the Elf Louise data base. (After all, Santa needs sound information to accurately program the GPS and locate each child to be visited!) Groups of up to five people can be easily accommodated to perform the auditing task. The time frame for auditing is Mid-November. Work is completed at the Bracken Texas warehouse, daytime hours. TOY STOCKERS: This is a fun job! All of the thousands of toys received by the Elf Louise Project that are destined for delivery to San Antonio children must be unboxed and stacked in age appropriate locations on shelves and pallets in preparation for gift wrapping activities. This is a great opportunity to view first hand the toys that will be delighting the thousands of children served each season by the Elf Louise Christmas Project. Toy stocking takes place at the project site. Groups of 8-10 people can be accommodated at one time to perform this important task. The time frame for stocking toys is the month from mid November-to mid December. Stocking is done at the project site daytime and evening time slots are available. Call the project to reserve your time to work in our toy shop…and bring your friends! WRAP ROOM CHECKERS: Checkers need to be adults. They are responsible for making sure each child has the appropriate number of toys, that toys are wrapped and then the checker places the gifts in the appropriate Santa delivery bag. WAREHOUSE HELP: This is the group that makes it all work! All of the thousands of toys that have been carefully wrapped and prepared for the Santa routes need to be taken to their assigned route storage spot in the warehouse. As the Santa Delivery teams begin to arrive at the Elf Louise site and prepare to leave on their appointed delivery rounds the bags need to be brought from the ware house, matched with the appropriate Santa team, and loaded into Santa’s awaiting vehicle (aka the Sleigh!) This is a terrific time for parents and child teams to work together, all while meeting some of San Antonio’s nicest people, The Elf Louise Santa’s! Children volunteers must be at least 12 years old. Groups of four to six people are needed at all times come to the Elf Louise Site alone or bring your friends. Call now to sign up to insure that you get the times of your preference. The time frame for Warehouse Worker Elves runs from Early to Late December, daytime and evening hours are available. SANTA ROOM WORKERS: Come and rub shoulders with San Antonio’s finest, the Elf Louise Santa’s! Greet the Santa’s as they arrive for their appointed routes during Santa Delivery hours. Match the Santa’s up with the perfect Red Velvet Santa suit. Bulk up the skinny Santa’s with a form filling Santa pillow. Help the Santa’s get into their white wigs and beards, apply the finishing touches to each Santa, while at the same time instilling each prospective Santa with the proper amount of ho-ho-ho! Watch as normal San Antonians, both men and women alike, are magically transformed into the Big Guy – Santa Clause!! When the Santa’s return from their appointed rounds assistance is needed to turn Santa back into a mere mortal, to properly store the Santa suits, and launder all of the Santa Wigs and Beards. The experiences and tails the returning Santa’s share with the Santa Room workers are priceless. Caution:Working with the Elf Louise Santa’s can be a life changing experience… Four to Six people are needed at all times during Santa Delivery. The time frame for Santa deliveries runs from mid to late December Daytime hours are available on the weekends during the Santa delivery period. Evening hours are available on weekdays during Santa Delivery. Call today to reserve your time and share the joy found in the Elf Louise Santa Room. BREAK DOWN AND WRAP UP: It’s not over when it’s over! The Elf Louise Christmas project does not end when the last Santa Run is completed on December 22nd! For approximately three weeks, beginning the first week in December, many willing hands are needed to pack up the remaining Elf Louise Project toys, Santa Suits, and supplies in preparation for the return to the Bracken Texas warehouse and Summer storage. Have you ever washed 250 Santa Suits? We have! ELF LOUISE NEEDS YOU!! Students needing community service hours are encouraged to earn these hours by working at the Elf Louise Christmas Project. Verification forms detailing volunteered hours will be provided by project supervisors upon request. As you can see, it takes a lot of volunteers to make the Elf Louise Christmas Project a success. We need your help. Please contact Elf Louise or call (210) 224-1843 and volunteer today! |
